Drunk lawyer tries to flee after causing 9 vehicle crash

A drunken lawyer attempted to flee the scene of a crime in his damaged car after he crashed his Isuzu MU-7 SUV into nine cars on the road in the Isaan province of Udon Thani. The blood alcohol content in the alleged drunk registered at a staggering 219 milligrammes. This is significantly higher than the legal limit of 50 milligrammes, indicating a severe case of drunk driving.

According to a report from Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, the vehicle collision occurred at an intersection connected to Rob Meaung and Nittayo Road in the Nong Bua sub-district of Udon Thani. The incident involved nine cars, including a coach bus, pickup, SUV, and sedan.

The perpetrator was later identified as 58 year old Mana Kotemanee. His Isuzu MU-7 SUV was found at a nearby location, and witnesses reported that he attempted to flee but was unsuccessful because his car was also damaged.

Police officers conducted a blood alcohol test on Mana, and the results indicated that he was highly intoxicated, with an alcohol level of 219 milligrams in 100 millilitres of blood. Mana refused to provide any personal details, but a lawyer identification card was found in his car.

According to one of the victims, 43 year old Thanutham Boonrittikun, Mana intentionally crashed into his sedan three times while he was stopped at the intersection waiting for a traffic light. Thanutham added that Mana moved his car back and forth to make three separate attacks.

Thanutham said he escaped from the car unharmed, but his wife suffered a mild injury to her leg. He said Mana continued crashing into other cars nearby him before fleeing the scene.

Thairath reported that Mana declined to give an interview with the media and remained quiet at the police station. He also refused to apologise for his actions making all the victims angry. Officers had to separate him from the victims to prevent any further altercations.

Mana has been charged with drink driving, which carries a prison sentence of up to one year, a fine of 5,000 to 20,000 baht, a driving license suspension of at least six months, or a driving license revocation under the Land Traffic Act.

He has also been charged with violating Section 390 of the Criminal Act for driving recklessly, which resulted in bodily or mental harm to others. This violation carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to one month, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.
