Tropical Storm Matmo threat still lingers, heavy rain expected
Weakening storm still brings monsoon winds and thunderstorms

The Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued another warning for Tropical Storm Matmo, which is expected to bring heavy rain and strong monsoons to Thailand today, October 7. The storm, centred over Lang Son, Vietnam, will not enter Thailand but is expected to influence the weather.
The storm is currently moving westward at approximately 15 kilometres per hour and is expected to weaken rapidly due to the influence of a cold air mass from China. The TMD has identified 32 provinces that are expected to experience heavy rainfall, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions, as well as the eastern part of the country.
Regional updates
In the north, thunderstorms will cover 30% of the area, mainly affecting Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius (°C) at night to 33 to 35°C during the day, with southwest winds at 10 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).
The northeast will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rainfall in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chaiyaphum, and Nakhon Ratchasima. Temperatures will range from 23 to 24°C at night to 32 to 34°C during the day, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
In the central region, thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, mainly in Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, Saraburi, and Ratchaburi. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C at night to 33 to 35°C during the day, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
The east will have thunderstorms over 60% of the area with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 22 to 25°C at night to 28 to 33°C during the day, with southwest winds at 15 to 30 km/h.
In the south (east coast), 30% of the area will experience thunderstorms, mainly in Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C at night to 32 to 36°C during the day, with southwest winds at 15 to 30 km/h.
In the south (west coast), 30% of the area will see thunderstorms, mainly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Trang, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 23 to 24°C at night to 32 to 34°C during the day. North of Phang Nga, southwest winds will be at 15 to 35 km/h with waves 1 to 2 metres high, exceeding 2 metres in thundershower areas. South of Phuket, winds will be at 15 to 30 km/h with waves around 1 metre.
Bangkok and its vicinity will have thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging from 23 to 24°C at night to 29 to 32°C during the day, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
