Yesterday, a tragic incident occurred in the Non Yanang village, Ku Mueang district, Buriram province, where a nine year old boy drowned saving his sister. After receiving the report, local officials and rescue workers were quickly dispatched to the scene, a pond belonging to villagers, with a depth of approximately 3 metres. The deceased boy, Kaopan, had been near the water with his six year old sister, Kao Jao. The boy’s 55 year old grandfather revealed that the children usually returned home from school, but they had been late that day.

After Kao Jao fell into the water, her elder brother, Kaopan, saved her by supporting her on a patch of grass before he disappeared under the surface. Rescue teams located Kaopan’s body after about 20 minutes of search. The shocking ordeal left the family in tears, as they struggled to cope with the loss, reported Khaosod.

Speaking to the authorities, Thong-on, the 55 year old grandfather, said that his grandchildren would usually go to school and come back home on time. However, on that day, they did not return as expected. The 53 year old grandmother, Thippawan, added that Kao Jao had run to her informing her about her brother falling into the water. It later emerged that the two siblings, after leaving school, had decided to play in the pond. Upon asking Kao Jao what had happened, she described Kaopan’s attempts to save her, leading to him going under the water after making sure she was safe.

Five days ago, the body of an 8 year old girl was discovered floating near bamboo shoots in the Lum Hua Klong Kong Creek, 100 meters away from where she drowned in Udon Thani’s Kum Pha Wa Pi district. The tragic incident occurred on June 9 when the girl, Patty, and her friends played at the creek after school. To read more click HERE
