Thailand imposes stricter penalties for unpaid tolls
The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is set to enforce stricter penalties for unpaid tolls starting January 1, 2025. Drivers who fail to pay tolls will face fines up to ten times the toll fee, with a maximum of 2,000 baht per incident.
This new regulation is part of the enforcement of Section 63 of the EXAT Act of 2007, aiming to ensure compliance and reduce toll evasion.
EXAT has outlined a series of measures for dealing with toll evasion. Initially, a notification will be sent to offenders, requesting payment of the outstanding toll along with evidence of payment. If the specified deadline is not met, EXAT will issue a notice of infraction within thirty days of the deadline.
This notice will require offenders to pay the unpaid toll and an administrative fine, which can be as much as ten times the toll fee but not exceeding 2,000 baht per occurrence.
Should offenders fail to respond within the stipulated timeframe, EXAT will impose an administrative fine following the same parameters. Payment can be made through designated channels as stated in the notice, or at the One Stop Service Center located on the first floor of the EXAT Administrative Center on Rim Khlong Bang Kapi Road, Huai Khwang, Bangkok.
The service centre operates on all working days from 8.30am to 3.30pm. For further information, individuals can contact EXAT at 02 558 9800, extensions 10700 to 10709.
EXAT urges all drivers to ensure their Easy Pass accounts are sufficiently funded to cover toll payments. For any inquiries or further assistance, drivers are encouraged to reach out to the EXAT Call Center at 1543, available 24 hours a day.
In other news, Phuket’s ambitious infrastructure plans took a significant step forward after Governor Sophon Suwannarat held a crucial meeting with representatives from the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) at the Phuket Provincial Hall.
The discussions centred on the progress of the highly anticipated Phuket Expressway Project, commonly referred to by locals as the Patong Tunnel and Mueang Mai-Koh Kaew-Kathu Expressway projects.
