Thai singer fined 1,000 baht for ‘Sox on Cox’ performance in Nonthaburi restaurant

Divided reactions online as fans defend stunt while critics demand punishment

A Thai singer faces a fine of 1,000 baht after his “Sox on Cox” performance at a restaurant in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok.

The restaurant’s Facebook page, ร้านมากันใหญ่, shared a video of the band NEGATIVE’s performance yesterday, with the caption…

“Last night, NEGATIVE unlocked the heat! After being pressured for several weeks, they finally launched their killer punch, Sox on Cox and By the Way. They let it all out and thrilled the audience! We won’t stop here. Guess what’s next?”

In the video, the band’s frontman was seen playing guitar and singing By the Way by the Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) while completely naked. Unlike the RHCP’s Sox on Cox antics, the other band members remained fully clothed.

The performance led to a heated debate on social media. Some netizens dismissed it as harmless entertainment, while others argued it had crossed the line and called for legal action against both the band and the restaurant owner.

Yesterday, the 32 year old singer, Nattawut, presented himself at Bang Bua Thong Police Station. He admitted to wrongdoing, saying this was the first time in his life he had done such a thing.

Nattawut explained that the explicit performance had been planned solely to entertain the audience. He insisted there was no malicious intent and said the act was inspired by his idols, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

He apologised to the public for his reckless behaviour and expressed regret to his fans for letting them down.

Nattawut was charged under Section 388 of the Criminal Law: committing a shameful act in public by exposing oneself. The offence carries a maximum fine of 5,000 baht. In this case, he was fined 1,000 baht.

According to Thai Press, the restaurant manager, whose name has been withheld, faced the same charge and was fined an equal amount.

In a similar case reported in 2022, Paphavee “Oil” Chaimongkol, a Thai social media influencer and model better known as Oil Roi Joob (meaning Oil Kissyface), was fined 5,000 baht for the same offence as Nattawut after she stripped and danced in front of an audience at a nightclub in Khon Kaen.
