Phuket ushers in new year with traditional almsgiving ceremony
Phuket officials marked the new year with a traditional almsgiving ceremony, drawing prominent figures and residents from across the province. The event took place yesterday morning outside the Government Savings Bank on Phang Nga Road in Phuket Town, setting the tone for a year filled with aspirations for unity and prosperity.
The ceremony began at 6am, featuring offerings of food to monks and a Buddhist ritual. Residents then participated in a dry food almsgiving. Leading the ceremony was Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai, alongside Phra Khru Wisutkitiyaphon, Abbot of Wat Kitti Sangkharam and Advisor to the Sangha Chief of Phuket Province.
In his new year’s address, Vice Governor Samawit highlighted the significance of unity and love among the local community. He expressed his dedication to fostering the province’s prosperity and wished everyone happiness and success in the upcoming year.
Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkanapilas also spoke to the attendees, offering his blessings and reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents, reported The Phuket News.
“Phuket City Municipality will continue striving to make our city a creative hub, blending our unique culture with technological advancements.”
The ceremony underscored the collective spirit and ambitions of Phuket’s people, who aim to further develop their province into a more livable and prosperous community in 2025.
In related news, more than 12 million people across Thailand engaged in new year transition prayers, as reported by Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol. The ceremonies, marking the start of 2025, were organised by 24,835 establishments nationwide, under the initiative of the Religious Affairs Department.
