Missing Indian man found dead in abandoned Pathum Thani eatery
Officers from Khlong Luang Police Station are investigating the death of an Indian man who went missing for nearly a week before being found at an abandoned restaurant within an apartment in the central province of Pathum Thani. Suicide is suspected.
The family of Jain, a 38 year old Indian man, arrived in Thailand yesterday, August 20, to search for him after his wife lost contact with him for nearly a week. According to the wife, Jain had arrived in Thailand on August 12, and they had last spoken at 10pm on August 14.
During their final conversation, Jain mentioned having an issue with his Thai business partner. His wife overheard a loud argument between them but did not catch the details.
Jain’s wife revealed that he had rented an apartment in the Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani for a year and always stayed there during his visits to Thailand. She began her search in a room on the third floor of the apartment building but did not find him there.
When the police arrived and conducted a search of the apartment, they found no sign of Jain. However, a caretaker later discovered a deceased man in an abandoned restaurant on the ground floor.
Officers quickly examined the body and confirmed it was Jain. They estimated that he had been dead for two to three days before the discovery, as decomposition had already begun.
According to Pathum Thani News, Jain’s cash, amounting to about 300,000 baht, was missing, though his mobile phone was found in the pocket of his trousers.
Police found a hole in the ceiling of the restaurant and suspected that Jain may have committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop on the ninth floor of the apartment. However, officers have not yet confirmed this theory or released further details of their investigation to the public.
Jain’s body was transferred to Thammasat University Hospital for an autopsy. Police have not revealed whether they intend to summon Jain’s Thai business partner for questioning.
