Indian scrubs passport to hide secret trips to Thailand from wife

A nervous Indian man with a dodgy passport and an even dodgier excuse has been nicked at the airport, after desperately trying to wipe out evidence of secret trips to Thailand so his wife wouldn’t find out.

The 28 year old man from Paldi in South Western Ahmedabad, India, found himself in hot water after immigration officials at the airport discovered his passport had been tampered with, all in a bid to keep his wife in the dark about his clandestine travels to Thailand.

The unnamed man, who had just landed from Dubai, came unstuck when eagle-eyed immigration officer Kuldeep Karamata spotted several smudged and damaged Indian immigration stamps during routine checks.

According to the complaint, the man confessed to scrubbing the passport pages with water in an attempt to erase both arrival and departure stamps, particularly those linked to Thailand.

Immigration officials said at least eight to nine stamps from major Indian cities including Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad, dating from 2017 to 2025, were affected.

“The stamps showing the arrival as well as departure dates of Thailand immigration were also scrubbed by the passenger, who later confessed to having done it,” the report stated.

The man has now been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 336(2) for forgery, 336(3) for forgery with intent to cheat, 338 for forgery of valuable security, and 340(2) for using forged documents as genuine.

Additional charges under the Passport Act of 1967 have been slapped on too, as wilfully damaging a passport is a criminal offence.

Officials also warned that even accidentally damaged passports can be grounds for rejection at immigration and require re-issuance.

And if you think that’s bad, he’s not the only Indian husband quaking in his boots over a furious wife.

In a similarly daft incident last year, a 33 year old logistics operator from Satara, India, found himself in trouble at Mumbai International Airport for something similar.

Immigration officials detained the Indian man just before he could board a flight to Thailand, uncovering his audacious attempt to conceal past trips from his wife.

Moral of the story? If you’re scared of your wife, maybe just buy flowers… not a fake alibi and a ruined passport.
