Gay Thai man steals valuables after being ignored by sleeping date
Police arrested a gay Thai man for stealing valuables worth more than 100,000 baht from a dating application match allegedly due to anger after the victim fell into a deep sleep and failed to answer the door.
Police apprehended the 38 year old Thai man, Jiradate, yesterday, January 8, at his home in the Taling Chan district of Bangkok. His arrest followed a theft complaint filed by the victim, referred to as A.
A reported to the police on December 25 that he arranged to meet Jiradate at his home in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok after connecting with him on a dating app. However, Jiradate took advantage of the situation when A fell asleep. He broke into the victim’s home and stole several valuable items.
The stolen items included designer bags, luxury watches, a Bluetooth speaker, and cash, amounting to a loss of over 100,000 baht. The bedroom window was also damaged during the incident.
During interrogation, Jiradate admitted to the theft. He explained that A invited him to his home around 5am on the day of the crime. According to Jiradate, A urged him to come quickly and join him for drinks.
Jiradate rode his motorcycle as fast as he could to A’s home but was frustrated to find no one waiting to greet him upon his arrival. He claimed he repeatedly called A and rang the bell but received no response.
Enraged, Jiradate admitted to throwing a rock at the bedroom window and using a hose to spray water into the room in an attempt to wake A. He later discovered a key hidden in a shoe outside the house so used the key to enter the property and took the valuables.
Jiradate confessed to selling all the stolen items and using the money to purchase drugs. He insisted that he did not initially intend to commit a crime, stating his original intent was to engage in some sexual activity with A.
Jiradate claimed that his actions were driven purely by anger when A was unresponsive after a long drive from Bangkok.
Jiradate now faces charges under Section 335 of the Criminal law: committing theft by damaging barriers intended to protect persons or property and using a vehicle to facilitate the crime. The penalty is imprisonment for one to five years and a fine ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 baht.
