Fuel prices slashed to ease Songkran travel costs

Motorists across Thailand are in for a welcome surprise as fuel prices are set to drop just in time for the Songkran holiday rush.

PTT Station announced a 0.50 baht per litre cut in retail prices for both petrol and diesel, effective from 5am today, March 28. The reduction is part of a wider initiative by the Oil Fuel Fund Office (OFFO) to ease travel expenses and encourage tourism during the upcoming Thai New Year celebrations.

According to the latest update, petrol will now cost 42.44 baht per litre, while Gasohol 95 and 91 are priced at 34.15 baht and 33.78 baht per litre, respectively. E20 is down to 31.94 baht per litre, E85 at 30.29 baht per litre, and premium Gasohol 95 at 42.74 baht per litre.

Diesel prices have also been adjusted. Diesel B7 and Diesel B20 are both priced at 32.44 baht per litre, with premium Diesel B7 coming in at 44.44 baht per litre. PTT notes that these prices exclude the Bangkok maintenance tax.

This move aligns with the OFFOโ€™s earlier announcement to reduce fuel prices by 0.50 baht per litre today, with another 0.50 baht drop scheduled for April 4. In total, motorists will benefit from a 1 baht per litre discount over the two-week period.

The initiative is designed to support travellers hitting the roads during Songkran, one of Thailandโ€™s busiest and most festive holidays. It also aims to stimulate domestic tourism and offer some relief amid rising living costs.

As of March 24, the average national price for Diesel was 32.94 baht per litre, while Gasoline (Octane-95) stood at 44.47 baht per litre. The newly announced cuts mark a noticeable improvement for road users, especially those travelling long distances during the holiday, reported KhaoSod.

With Songkran approaching fast, Thailandโ€™s drivers can now look forward to a bit of breathing room at the pumps โ€” and maybe a few extra baht for water guns and celebrations.
