A highly aggressive king cobra measuring 4 metres in length was safely captured after it raised its hood over 1 metre high and threatened to strike.
The incident occurred on Sunday, February 9, when 62 year old Sunthon Chumanuan, residing at 98/1, Village 1, Sathon subdistrict, Nathawi district, Songkhla province, alerted police to the presence of a large and fierce king cobra in his garage.
Sunthon sought assistance from Thawisak Boonses and the Southern Herpetology Team to capture the snake. The team arrived at the scene along with the Sathon Subdistrict Administration’s rescue unit.
The cobra was found hiding in the garage, and officials used a hook to coax it into an open space to facilitate a safe capture. Once in the open, the cobra raised its hood to a height of about 1 metre, hissing menacingly and displaying a readiness to strike if approached.
Despite the cobra’s aggressive behaviour, the team, demonstrating their expertise, managed to capture it in a relatively short time. The snake was measured at approximately 4 metres in length and was safely placed in a sack to be released back into a remote natural habitat, far from residential areas, reported KhaoSod.
During the incident, locals gathered to watch the capture of the large king cobra. They noted the house number where the snake was found, 98/1, as a potential lucky number for the upcoming lottery draw on February 16.

In similar news, a large, 3-metre-long snake was discovered in a toilet at a residence in Samut Songkhram, prompting emergency services to intervene.
The snake, identified as a large fish-eating snake, was stuck in the toilet due to its size. Fire department personnel from Samut Songkhram Municipality were alerted to the situation at house number 11/1, Village 6, and took prompt action.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found the snake’s head emerging from the toilet. Attempts to pull the snake out were initially unsuccessful as its body was too large to fit through the toilet, necessitating permission from the homeowner to break the toilet for removal.
