Forest fire devastates over 2,000 rai on Phu Lam Yai Mountain
Aerial footage reveals extensive damage from a forest fire on Phu Lam Yai Mountain, with over 2,000 rai of land affected. The fire left trees charred across the region. Officials are clearing the area and monitoring to prevent any resurgence of the fire.
Yesterday, January 26, Vichit Kitwirat, Deputy Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, who also serves as the commander of the incident command centre in Khon Buri district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, reported on the fire situation at the Phu Lam Yai Mountain. The affected area spans the borders of villages 4 and 9 in Khon Buri Tai subdistrict, Khon Buri district, as well as Udom Sap subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao district.
Pirawat Theerawatana, the district chief of Khon Buri, coordinated a multi-agency response involving soldiers from the 2nd Army Region, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre (Region 5), the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Khon Buri Tai municipality, Thap Lan National Park, police from Khon Buri station, Hook 31 Nakhon Ratchasima rescue volunteers, community leaders, and local volunteers, totalling 179 people.
Somkiat Puangkao, head of the Thap Lan forest fire control station, created firebreaks to prevent the flames from spreading downhill and prepared a landing area for rotary-wing aircraft. The fire has been successfully extinguished, and the Thap Lan forest fire control station is in the process of clearing charred areas and patrolling the surroundings to prevent any recurrence of the blaze, reported KhaoSod.
The fire resulted in damage to over 2,000 rai of forested highlands out of a total of 4,000 rai. Fortunately, the fire’s location was remote from residential areas, so no property or agricultural produce was affected. Aerial images distinctly show swathes of blackened trees across the landscape.
