Fake police officer collared in Bang Kapi for ‘uniform’ crime
A man was arrested in Bang Kapi yesterday for impersonating a police officer and using his fake status to steal a mobile phone. The suspect claimed he did it because he liked the uniform. The Thai police managed to track him down and make an arrest after a former colleague reported the crime.
Police officials apprehended 45 year old Sanae at a dormitory in Huamark, Bang Kapi, Bangkok. The arrest followed an investigation that began on June 8 when the victim filed a complaint at the Chalong Krung Police Station.
The victim revealed that he had previously worked alongside Sanae as a security guard, and reported that Sanae had disguised himself in a police uniform. He recounted that Sanae had approached him, claiming that his phone was lost and asked to borrow the victim’s mobile to make an urgent call.
Sanae then disappeared with the phone soon after.
Police investigations soon revealed Sanae’s whereabouts. Upon arrest, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he had stored the stolen items at his dormitory. A subsequent search of the dormitory uncovered police uniforms and patrol equipment hidden in his room.
The fake officer admitted his fondness for police attire and intended to convince his friend that he was an actual police officer.
Police charged Sanae with nighttime theft using a vehicle to facilitate the crime and drug abuse. He was taken into custody along with the confiscated items and handed over to the Chalong Krung Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The police continue to investigate whether Sanae has committed similar offences in the past or if there were other accomplices involved. The findings of this investigation will determine the next steps and any additional charges that may be filed against him, reported Khaosod.
The case serves as a cautionary tale about the need for awareness and vigilance in everyday interactions, especially when dealing with individuals claiming to hold positions of authority.
