Drunk driver crashes into streetlight and overturns in Pattaya
A drunk driver lost control of his pickup truck, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a streetlight before overturning into a median ditch. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to assist.
At approximately 2.20am today, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Radio Centre in Pattaya received a report of an overturned pickup truck near a wood trading factory on Sukhumvit Road, heading towards Chon Buri. Rescue volunteers were dispatched to the location immediately.
Upon arrival, responders discovered a damaged Nissan Navara pickup truck. The vehicle had collided with a streetlight, breaking the pole, and subsequently overturned into the median ditch.
The driver, a man estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, was found injured and trapped inside the vehicle.
Witnesses reported that the driver appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Emergency personnel worked quickly to pry open the vehicle’s doors and extract the man, who exhibited signs of severe drunkenness, before rushing him to the hospital for further medical treatment.
A witness of the incident, 20 year old Chaiwa, recounted seeing the pickup swaying back and forth before speeding past his car. He expressed that the driver looked like he was drunk behind the wheel.
After swerving around the road, the truck lost control, hit the streetlight, overturned, and landed in the median ditch.
After witnessing the crash, Chaiwat immediately called emergency services for assistance. The rapid response of the rescue team ensured that the driver received prompt medical attention, reported Khaosod.
The authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident and any potential legal consequences for the driver.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence, not only to the driver but also to other road users. Emergency services continue to stress the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to avoid consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
