Royal Thai Police are on a manhunt for assailants responsible for a deadly ambush in Yarang district, Pattani, that resulted in three fatalities and five injuries. The ambush, which took place in front of the Yarang municipal office on the Yarang-Mayo Road, occurred at approximately 10.50pm yesterday.

The attackers, armed with assault rifles and grenades, left a chilling scene. Over 100 spent rifle cartridges littered the area, alongside fragments of grenades. The two-storey municipal office bore the brunt of the attack, its walls now riddled with holes, reported Bangkok Post.

The ambush claimed the lives of 48 year old Police Senior Sergeant Major Tuwaelo Loma, 45 year old defence volunteer Charnwit Dorloh, and 47 year old Narong Rakaew. Five other police officers sustained injuries in the grisly attack.

The event has sent shockwaves through the community, and authorities are now working tirelessly to track down the individuals responsible. The motivation behind the attack is still under investigation.

In related news two weeks ago, a clash between the Thai military and militant insurgents, saw two suspects gunned down in Pattani Province. The suspects had been spotted by locals hiding out in a household in Nong Chik District and were subsequently cornered by a joint force of 50 military personnel led by Colonel Sathiraphong Atharn and Lieutenant Colonel Sittisak Chenbanchong.

Upon reaching the location, Thai military personnel set up a perimeter around the aforementioned house. The suspects sensed the movements outside and began to flee into a neighbouring rubber plantation, firing at their pursuers. This resulted in an initial confrontation where one suspect, identified as 33 year old Weuseng Dueraheng, from Nong Chik District, was fatally shot.

Weuseng, discovered with an M16 rifle, had a history of violent crime with four arrest warrants issued in his name for various offences, including robbery and murder. To read more about the story click HERE!
