A Burmese national has been sentenced to 15 days in prison without probation after a shocking video emerged showing the man repeatedly throwing a helpless puppy into the sea off Koh Samui.

The disturbing footage, which went viral on February 7, captured the man forcefully hurling the terrified stray dog into the water.

Each time the puppy desperately swam back to shore, he cruelly tossed it in again. The man later attempted to justify his actions, claiming he was “cleaning” the dog due to a tick infestation.

The Watchdog Thailand Foundation (WDT) swiftly condemned the act, denouncing it as blatant animal abuse. Outraged netizens joined the campaign for justice, demanding authorities track down the perpetrator and hold him accountable.

Following intense backlash, the man issued an apology on social media but continued to defend his actions, pleading for public forgiveness.

WDT founder Saban-nga Nontara vowed to pursue legal action, confirming that the organisation is working closely with police in Koh Samui, Surat Thani province. A lawsuit has been officially filed, with WDT determined to ensure the case is brought to justice.

Police General Kittirat Phanphet ordered an investigation into the matter, leading to the identification of the offender, who was found to be a Burmese national violating Thai law. The WDT reported the verdict from the Chumphon Provincial Court, which confirmed the sentence of 15 days imprisonment without probation.

In addition to the prison sentence, the Immigration Bureau has taken steps to revoke the man’s visa and initiate deportation proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

The swift legal response underscores the seriousness of animal cruelty cases and the commitment to upholding Thai law.
