Boy dies after fall from shopping mall in Ayutthaya
A 12 year old boy tragically fell to his death from the rooftop of a shopping mall located along Rojana Road in Uthai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. His death has left his family devastated, particularly his mother, who was with him just hours before the tragic incident.
At around 6.30pm, yesterday, December 2, local police received a report of a fall from the mall and immediately dispatched rescue teams to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency responders found Wongsthorn (last name withheld) lying unconscious with severe head injuries. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wongsthorn’s mother, identified only as A, arrived at the scene shortly after being notified of the accident. Upon seeing her son’s lifeless body, she broke down in grief and embraced him. She explained that Wongsthorn, nicknamed Nong Title, was a special needs child who had been out of school for two months.
They had been spending the day together at their home, where Wongsthorn had played a game of sepak takraw with friends in the neighbourhood before heading home.
However, after returning to the house, A discovered her son was missing. She began searching for him, but soon received a call from the police informing her that Wongsthorn had fallen from the mall. A expressed confusion over how her son managed to get to the mall, though she mentioned that he had previously trained in taekwondo there.
An eyewitness who was in the parking lot below the building reported hearing a loud noise, followed by the sight of Wongsthorn’s body hitting the pavement. They immediately contacted emergency services.
Police investigators conducted a thorough examination of the scene and questioned witnesses. They also reviewed security footage from the mall’s cameras to determine how the tragic fall occurred.
During their inspection of the rooftop area, which is used to store maintenance equipment, officers found some debris and traces of white cement near the edge. They also discovered shoeprints matching Wongsthorn’s sneakers, suggesting that he may have accidentally fallen from this area, reported KhaoSod.
Police have sent the boy’s body for a detailed autopsy at the Forensic Science Institute in Pathum Thani Province to determine the exact cause of death.
