Americans residing in Thailand are set to gather tomorrow, October 10, from 12 noon to 1pm to support US electoral democracy by casting their votes in front of the US Embassy in Bangkok.

The event, known as the 2024 Election Ballot Walk, will see a large, non-partisan group of Americans walking down Witthayu (Wireless Road) from the Au Bon Pain in front of GPF Tower to the Embassy, where they will deposit their ballots in the official US Citizen Services drop box.

This dropbox ensures that ballots are sent back to the US by the Embassy and mailed to the states to be counted in the national election on November 5.

Harold Hibbert, Vice-Chair at Democrats Abroad Thailand, made known that the walk is a symbol of American democracy in action.

“It allows Americans wherever they are in the world to vote in our national election. Overseas Americans being able to use their voice and exercising their right to vote is part of what makes our system special, and we strongly support the US Embassy’s role in facilitating the vote by sending our ballots back to the US.”

Participants will place their ballots one by one into the official embassy drop box, cheered on by the assembled group in a momentous display of civic engagement. The central message of the event is to remind all Americans that voting is their right, whether at home or abroad, and to make their voices heard.

This marks the second time overseas Americans in Thailand have organised an Election Ballot Walk. In October 2020, a similar event took place where a group of Americans demonstrated their commitment to democratic participation.

For Americans who have not yet registered to vote or requested their absentee ballot, it is crucial to take action immediately. By visiting the relevant website, they can quickly complete and print out the necessary forms along with detailed instructions to send back to their local or state registrar of voters.

This ensures they can participate in the critical upcoming election and contribute to the democratic process shaping America’s future, reported Pattaya News.
