American tourist crashes dirt bike in Chiang Mai, kills local woman
An American tourist riding a dirt bike collided with a Thai woman, tragically resulting in her death while she was crossing a road in Chiang Mai. Overwhelmed with remorse, the tourist knelt and apologised to the deceased’s family.
Officers from Mae On Police Station in Chiang Mai were alerted to an accident involving a dirt bike and a middle-aged Thai woman yesterday morning, January 2. The incident occurred in the San Dok Mae On area, in the Ban Sahakorn subdistrict of Mae On district. Upon receiving the report, officers, along with a rescue team from Wiang Fah Mae On, promptly arrived at the scene to investigate.
At the location, Police Colonel Jakarin Atthasongphong, the superintendent of Mae On Police Station, and Police Colonel Damnoen Kanong, the deputy commander of Chiang Mai Provincial Police, conducted an on-site investigation. They found the injured woman, later identified as 58 year old Kieaw Saewang, lying unconscious on the road. Emergency responders immediately performed CPR and coordinated with Mae On Hospital to dispatch a vehicle equipped with medical equipment to urgently transport her to the emergency room. Tragically, Kieaw was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The individual involved in the collision was identified as 38 year old Philip Morrow, an American national. Witnesses reported seeing Morrow in tears, kneeling to apologise to Kieaw’s family for the accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that Kieaw had been crossing the road to reach a restaurant on the opposite side when the dirt bike, travelling from the Huay Kaew subdistrict, struck her, causing severe injuries.
Morrow was brought in for further questioning by the investigating officers at the police station to ensure proper legal proceedings would follow, reported KhaoSod.
