Chiang Mai teen arrested for arranging underage prostitution
A 16 year old girl in Chiang Mai has been arrested for allegedly acting as a pimp, arranging sexual services for a 14 year old girl with a fee of 3,500 baht. The arrest, made by police following a sting operation, occurred at a hotel. The suspect admitted to earning a commission of 500 baht per client.
Yesterday, February 3, at the Region 5 Provincial Police Headquarters, Police Lieutenant General Kritthaphon Yeesakorn and Police Major General Worapong Kamlue announced the arrest of the 16 year old involved in arranging prostitution services for minors under 15.
The arrest stemmed from a tip-off received by the Region 5 Anti-Human Trafficking Centre, which reported a young girl, aged 16, using Facebook to advertise entertainment services leading to sexual encounters.
Police collaborated with Chiang Mai’s multi-disciplinary team, the Social Development and Human Security Office, Chiang Mai Children’s and Family Shelter, ZOE International Foundation, and the Exodus Road Foundation to execute the arrest. An undercover agent contacted the Facebook account used by the suspect.
The suspect responded, confirming the availability of girls for the service at 3,500 baht (US$103) each, providing photos of three girls and confirming they were all under 18.
Upon receiving these details, police arranged a meeting at a hotel in San Klang subdistrict, San Kamphaeng district, Chiang Mai. They recorded the serial numbers of 10,500 baht (US$310) in cash intended for the sting operation as evidence.
At the agreed time, girls arrived on a motorcycle, dispersing to rooms where undercover agents awaited. Once all four individuals arrived, the arrest team was signalled.
The investigation revealed that the girl acting as the pimp was 16 years old while the three girls she brought were 14. Three unused condoms were also found, reported KhaoSod.
The 16 year old, referred to as A (a pseudonym), confessed to arranging the girls for clients and receiving a 500 baht (US$15) commission from each girl. She was charged and taken to the Region 5 Anti-Human Trafficking Centre for legal proceedings. The three 14 year old girls were protected under anti-human trafficking laws.
