Thai police seize nearly 4,000 unregistered cosmetics in Bangkok
Thai police have apprehended a Chinese national with nearly 4,000 unregistered cosmetic items, including nail polish, lipstick, and perfume, valued at over 51,876 baht (US$1,518).
Police Colonel Santi Kornkaseam, Police Lieutenant Colonels Woraprat Vutthirak and Peerat Wessakosol, received a report from Police Captain Narongyot Rungrueang, leading to the arrest of Duan, a Chinese citizen, yesterday, August 20. The operation occurred at a warehouse in the Misuk Land rental area, Lat Krabang district, Bangkok.
The confiscated items include 172 pieces of Bomd brand nail polish (gold box), 490 pieces of Bomd brand nail polish (silver box), 540 pieces of two-moon brand nail polish, 492 pieces of Maxfine brand nail polish, 400 nail polish oils, 160 pieces of Cappuvini 296 lipstick, 60 pieces of Cappuvini 586 lipstick, 264 pieces of Sensory party lipstick, and 168 pieces of Hanju perfume. The total count of seized goods amounted to 3,858 items.
“All these items were found to be unregistered,” stated the officers. The police have charged Duan with selling cosmetics without proper registration under Section 14, violating Section 62 of the Cosmetics Act B.E. 2558 (2015), reported KhaoSod.
The suspect and the unregistered goods were taken to Rom Klao Police Station for further legal action.
In related news, Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned against six illegal beauty and dental care products, including popular toothpaste and facial masks, urging the public not to purchase or use these items.
This alert comes after a raid conducted in partnership with the Consumer Protection Board and the Royal Thai Police on a company in the Bang Na district. The operation uncovered that the company was using Chinese influencers to livestream and sell unregistered and unlabeled products in Thailand. The FDA is currently taking legal action against the offenders.
The products in question were being marketed with various claims, such as whitening facial masks, skin-cleansing mud masks, toothpaste that prevents tooth decay, moisturising facial masks, and toothpaste that removes stains from coffee and tea.
