Teen arrested in Bangkok with firearm for self-defence

Ongoing gang rivalries suspected as background to latest youth arrest

A 17 year old was apprehended by police after exhibiting suspicious behaviour and found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The teenager claimed the items were taken from a rival for self-defence. Legal proceedings ensued promptly.

At 4am today, May 9, Police Colonel Anan Warasart, the superintendent of Bang Khen Police Station, directed investigation deputy superintendent, Police Colonel Sanpich Sirisunthorn, along with Police Colonel Sunthorn Traiwet, and Bang Khen police patrol officers, to arrest a 17 year old known as Kiu.

The arrest took place in front of a housing estate on Soi Wat Siriphongthammanimit, Sukhaphiban 5 Road, Tha Raeng subdistrict, Bang Khen district, Bangkok. Confiscated were a blank gun and four .380 calibre bullets.

Two hours prior, at 2am, police were patrolling their area of responsibility and encountered a male teenager riding a motorcycle on Soi Wat Siriphongthammanimit with a suspicious demeanour, prompting a stop for inspection.

A GLOCK 19 blank gun, .380 calibre, along with four bullets loaded in a magazine, were concealed within a side bag. These items were seized as evidence, reported KhaoSod.

During interrogation, Kiu confessed that the firearm belonged to him, claiming it was taken from a rival for self-protection in case of an attack. Police notified Kiu’s guardians of the arrest and proceeded with charges, transferring the teenager and evidence to Bang Khen Police Station for further legal action.
