Rama II drama: Crane truck collapse severely injures man

Following the Dao Khanong Expressway Bridge collapse, Bangkok’s Rama II saw yet another serious accident as a crane truck used for tree pruning collapsed, injuring a 63 year old man.

The man suffered a serious forehead injury, requiring immediate medical attention, including a ventilator, at the hospital. The incident occurred yesterday, March 20 on Rama II Road near Soi 44.

JS100 Radio reported that the accident took place at 2.30pm. The injured man sustained a severe forehead wound and was in critical condition. Emergency services provided a ventilator before transporting him promptly to the hospital. Relevant emergency services and police are currently investigating the incident, reported KhaoSod.

Rama II Road, a major thoroughfare connecting Bangkok to southern Thailand, has been the site of numerous accidents, particularly related to ongoing construction projects.

The death toll from a devastating bridge collapse on Rama II Road amounted to five, with 20 others injured as rescue teams continue to search for more victims. The tragedy occurred in the early hours of March 15, raising serious concerns over Bangkok’s infrastructure safety.

A loud bang echoed around 2am when a large section of an under-construction bridge fell near Rama II Soi 25 in Chom Thong district. Emergency crews, including forensic experts and volunteers, rushed to the scene.

Two more bodies were uncovered under the rubble, bringing the total casualties to five. The collapse is linked to the Rama III-Dao Khanong expressway project.

In November last year, a crane and precast concrete segments collapsed on the outbound side of Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon province, leading to six deaths and eight injuries, all involving construction workers.

The Thailand Structural Engineers Association (TSEA) has expressed concerns over the frequency of construction-related accidents on Rama II Road. They recommend urgent reviews of ongoing projects, especially those near public roads, and stricter enforcement of safety measures, including proper oversight and regulation of construction materials, according to Bangkok Post.

These incidents underscore the critical need for enhanced safety protocols and rigorous supervision of construction activities to protect both workers and the public on Rama II Road.
