Bangkok cops slam brakes on late-night biker race
Police apprehended a group of young motorcyclists engaging in dangerous racing activities on Ramintra Road, Bangkok, around 3am today. The individuals were charged with multiple offences as law enforcement officials moved swiftly to ensure public safety.
The operation was led by Anan Worasat, the superintendent of Bang Khen Police Station, who directed officers to crack down on illegal street racing. A tip-off had alerted them to a gathering of motorcyclists near the Kilometres 2 marker on Ramintra Road in the Anusawari Subdistrict. Upon arrival, officers discovered a group of motorcycles speeding and weaving recklessly through traffic, raising concerns about potential harm to the public.
Police managed to apprehend three people following a pursuit that ended near the Watcharaphon Expressway in the Sai Mai District. The officers seized a motorcycle without a licence plate, which had been modified with a loud exhaust. Other motorcyclists involved managed to evade capture by fleeing at high speed.
The suspects were subsequently informed of three charges: attempting to race on public roads, driving without regard for safety and public nuisance, and operating a vehicle without a driving licence, reported KhaoSod.
These charges are part of ongoing efforts by the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau to curb illegal racing, which poses significant risks to both participants and bystanders. The apprehended individuals were handed over to investigators at Bang Khen Police Station for further legal proceedings.
In related news, police in Bangkok apprehended a large group of motorcycle riders racing on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, seizing 68 motorcycles and detaining both racers and their supporters. The operation followed reports on social media about the planned gathering.
At 12.30am on October 23, Phuchong Mae-thung, a traffic control officer from the Vibhavadi Rangsit Traffic Control Centre, led over 60 traffic police officers in an operation to intercept and capture motorcyclists. The racers had been spotted on Ratchadamnoen Road before moving to Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Din Daeng district, Bangkok.
