Police chief orders swift arrest after fatal hit-and-run in Bangkok

A dramatic incident involving a motorcyclist killed in a hit-and-run occurred yesterday in Bangkok prompting immediate intervention from the national police chief. The event took place around 5.10pm, yesterday, October 16, as Chief Kittirat Panpet was on his way to a religious ceremony at Wat Thepsirin.

While travelling to the ceremony following an inspection of police riot control units at the Government House, Kittirat encountered a motorcycle accident at the entrance of Soi Suan Mali 1 on Bamrung Mueang Road. The motorcyclist, later identified as Dam, was found lying in a pool of blood and had already succumbed to his injuries. The responsible party was not present at the scene.

Kittirat took charge and directed traffic officers to gather clues about the perpetrator. It was soon discovered that the suspect, driving a pickup truck loaded with goods, had fled and was hiding within Soi Suan Mali, reported KhaoSod.

Kittirat’s accompanying officers were dispatched to apprehend the 25 year old driver, identified as A. A was subsequently detained and handed over to investigators at Plubplachai Police Station to face legal proceedings.

In related news, a motorcyclist suffered critical injuries after a hit-and-run incident on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya. The collision occurred at 9.10pm on October 7 in front of an unidentified department store.

The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Centre promptly received the report and coordinated with medical staff from Bang Lamung Hospital. Upon arrival at the scene, the rescue team and reporters found a black Honda Wave 125 motorcycle overturned and damaged in the rightmost lane.

An unidentified man, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, lay unconscious nearby. He had no identification documents. The victim bore tyre marks on his abdomen, a broken left leg, and missing toes. Rescue workers and medical staff provided immediate first aid and transported him urgently to the hospital.
