PM Paetongtarn highlights policy successes in monthly address
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra delivered her monthly television address yesterday, February 2, highlighting her administration’s efforts and accomplishments since the beginning of the year.
The programme, titled Okat Thai Kap Nayok Paetongtarn (Opportunities for Thailand with Prime Minister Paetongtarn), is scheduled to air on the first Sunday of each month on the NBT HD2 channel, which is controlled by the government.
The 38 year old prime minister stated that the address serves as a platform for discussing the implementation and progress of government policies. For instance, since January 1, the 30-baht universal healthcare scheme has been enhanced, allowing patients to access medical services throughout Thailand.
She also introduced the government’s One District, One Scholarship initiative, aimed at expanding opportunities by funding summer camps for one student in each district.
Additionally, the PM spoke about the Ban Pheu Khon Thai (Homes for Thais) project, which has received positive feedback from potential homebuyers since its launch on January 17. The project offers quality housing with good transport links, affordable payment terms, and no required downpayment, all on state-owned land. Mortgage payments begin at approximately 4,000 baht per month, with leases extending up to 99 years.
The Thai PM also acknowledged the passage of the marriage equality law, effective January 23, crediting the collaborative efforts behind the legislation which had been in development for nearly two decades.
Reflecting on her recent attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, she highlighted the opportunity to showcase Thailand’s investment potential, noting the success of the Thailand Reception hosted during the event.
Regarding the PM2.5 pollution issue, she conceded that despite thorough planning and diverse measures, air quality remains poor, reported Bangkok Post.
The government’s recent initiative to offer free electric rail and public bus services encouraged public transport use, reducing road traffic by 500,000 vehicles and lowering emissions during the period. She is utilising her connections with other ASEAN leaders to address transboundary air pollution.
