Last call: Drunk man’s tragic death in a Khlong Tan police cell

A 55 year old man died in a detention cell at Khlong Tan Police Station after being arrested for disorderly conduct while drunk.
His family revealed he had a heart condition and a history of drug use. The incident involved a man, Pairoh, whose surname is withheld, causing a disturbance in Soi Phatthanakan 10 Intersection 1. Police from Khlong Tan Police Station detained him on March 15.
Yesterday, March 16, it was reported that Pairoh died in the detention cell during the late morning. At around 10am, his family visited him and found him unconscious, breathing faintly with a weak pulse.
The police coordinated with the Por Teck Tung Foundation to examine him, confirming his death, reported KhaoSod.
According to the family, Pairoh suffered from a heart condition and had been using drugs for a long time. The police have initially coordinated with the prosecutor, administrative officials, forensic police, and a forensic pathologist to collect evidence and proceed with an autopsy.
In similar news, disgraced former Police Colonel Thitisak Uthanaphon, widely known as “Director Joe” or Joe Ferrari, was found dead in his prison cell at Klong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok.
The 43 year old, who was serving a life sentence for torturing and killing a drug suspect, is believed to have taken his own life. However, questions remain over the circumstances of his death.
Prison officials reported discovering Thitisak’s body at around 11pm on March 7. His wife was promptly informed but has since expressed doubts, suggesting there may be more to his death than what has been officially stated.
“We need all the details. Was it truly suicide, or was there foul play involved?” she reportedly questioned.
Police are now performing an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death. Police Colonel Sanya Ubonwiratana, superintendent of Prachachuen Police Station, confirmed that forensic officers, prosecutors, and a doctor from the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine arrived at Klong Prem Central Prison at 9am on March 8 to commence their investigation.
