A Thai man who stabbed his manager to death at a shopping mall in Bangkok on Sunday, February 23, claimed that the victim committed commission fraud and gossiped about him with other colleagues.

The fatal stabbing took place in an electronics store on the fifth floor of the shopping mall at closing time, around 10pm. The store manager, 40 year old Prayot Yamphum, was alone in the store when the alleged attacker, 27 year old Sorrasak Borklom, reportedly stabbed him multiple times in the chest, back, and neck.

Sorrasak was arrested at the scene and taken to Pathum Wan Police Station for questioning. Matichon reported that Sorrasak accused Prayot of swindling his commission and claimed that Prayot frequently gossiped about him with other colleagues.

Prayot’s girlfriend, 28 year old Puttachart, told the media that she had been in a relationship with Prayot for about two years. They did not have children together but both had children from previous relationships.

Prayot usually left the mall at around 9.30pm and had dinner with her. However, on the day of the incident, Prayot did not return home as usual. Puttachart waited for him but, unfortunately, received the tragic news via a phone call.

Puttachart insisted that Prayot was not the type to gossip about others. She said he had mentioned Sorrasak to her before but only to seek her advice on how to help him get along with colleagues. She also did not believe Prayot would have swindled Sorrasak’s commission, as he claimed.

Girlfriend and colleagues grieving

Two days before his death, Prayot told Puttachart that his car tyre was slashed, causing him to arrive home late as he needed to replace it. They did not know who was responsible, but now Puttachart suspected Sorrasak.

Puttachart stated that she would never forgive Sorrasak for what he had done, as she could never bring back the love of her life.

Other employees at the store shared similar accounts, describing Prayot as a good manager who helped them with both work-related and personal issues.

Some admitted they were still struggling to come to terms with his death and were having trouble sleeping after the incident.

According to other staff members, Sorrasak worked at the store for about a year, managing the vacuum cleaner department. They did not believe the allegations of commission fraud, as financial matters were beyond Prayot’s responsibilities and were handled by the company’s finance department.

The workers also insisted they had never heard Prayot speak negatively about Sorrasak or mention him at all, as the two were not close.

There are no reports of Sorrasak having any mental health issues. Given the severity of his crime, he may face the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years under Section 288 of the Criminal Law for intentional murder.
