Police arrested a Thai man for stabbing his colleague to death on the fifth floor of a shopping mall in the Pathum Wan district of Bangkok.

Officers from Pathum Wan Police Station were called to the mall at around 10pm, yesterday, February 23, at the closing time, to investigate the fatal stabbing.

Inside a massage chair store, officers found the 40 year old victim, Prayot Yamphum, lying on the ground in critical condition.

Prayot sustained three stab wounds to his chest, one to his back, one to the back of his neck, and another to the left side of his neck. Rescuers attempted to transport him to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries while first aid was being administered.

The attacker was identified as 27 year old Sorrasak Borklom, a colleague of the victim who worked in a different department within the store. Some Thai news agencies reported that Prayot was the store manager, while Sorrasak was one of his subordinates.

Police arrested Sorrasak at the scene, as he did not attempt to flee. He remains in custody for questioning as officers investigate the motive behind the crime. There have been no further updates on the case at this time.

A similar incident occurred earlier the same day, at around 5pm, in a convenience store in Samut Sakhon province. In this case, a Thai woman fatally stabbed her manager in a storage room within the store. She claimed she was angered after being forbidden from smoking cigarettes.

However, her colleagues provided a different account, stating that the suspect became enraged after being reprimanded over a complaint regarding her work performance. Following the fatal stabbing, she locked herself inside the storage room before being arrested by police.

Both suspects may face charges under Section 288 of the Criminal Code for intentional murder. The punishment for this offence includes the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison term ranging from 15 to 20 years.
