A 72 year old man drove a Honda HR-V into a utility pole, splitting it in half, as the vehicle spun to the opposite side of the road.

Witnesses reported seeing the car approach at high speed without braking. The incident occurred at 3.30pm yesterday, February 10, opposite Rama 6 Soi 11, Rong Mueang subdistrict, Pathum Wan district, Bangkok. Volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation were notified of the accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, responders found the Honda HR-V facing Rama 1 Road. The injured male driver, identified as Thanapong, was bleeding profusely. He was extracted from the car and given first aid before being transported to Hua Chiew Hospital. The utility pole was also found broken.

Witness Chaliaw, a 50 year old, recounted that while working on the opposite side of the road, he observed the vehicle travelling at high speed from Rama 1 Road towards Rama 6 Road before losing control and colliding with the utility pole, which broke into two pieces. The pole then gradually leaned over, prompting Chaliaw to assist the driver, reported KhaoSod.

Chaliaw mentioned that during the incident, he did not see any cars cutting in front of the vehicle or pedestrians crossing the road. Instead, he noted that the car drove straight into the pole with considerable force and without braking.

Chaliaw believes that the driver might have experienced a sudden fainting spell or fallen asleep at the wheel.
