Cruise company apologises for pouring trash into Chao Phraya (video)

In a scandal that sparked outrage among environmentalists and Bangkok residents, Royal Galaxy Cruise issued a public apology after a video surfaced showing trash being dumped into the Chao Phraya River.
The company expressed deep regret over the incident, blaming an untrained temporary employee for the environmental blunder.
The video, which quickly went viral on social media, showed garbage being carelessly tossed into the iconic river, drawing harsh criticism from locals and environmental groups alike.
The incident occurred yesterday, February 27, prompting Royal Galaxy Cruise to release an official statement addressing the issue.
“We would like to express our deep regret for the incident. The management has been informed and has not ignored this matter. We have immediately taken corrective action.”

According to the company’s investigation, the trash dumping was carried out by a temporary worker who was unfamiliar with the correct waste disposal procedures.
The employee, who was part of a rotating workforce, had not received the necessary training before taking up the role. Royal Galaxy Cruise emphasised that all permanent staff members are regularly trained on cleanliness and proper waste management.
“Temporary employees who rotate to work have not received training on the steps to collect trash on the ship after work. They acted without realising the consequences. As for all permanent employees, they will always receive training on cleanliness and the correct waste disposal process.”
In response to the incident, Royal Galaxy Cruise announced several corrective and preventive measures to ensure this environmental mishap is not repeated.
The company terminated the contracts of all relevant daily employees involved and implemented stricter cleanliness and environmental standards. Additionally, the management has increased inspections and enhanced training protocols for all employees.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability.
“We are committed to preserving the environment by using products that are friendly to nature, separating trash properly, and regularly checking the cleanliness standards of the ship.”
The Chao Phraya River, a crucial waterway in Bangkok, has long suffered from pollution issues, and the video has reignited public concern about environmental responsibility among local businesses.
Environmental activists have urged authorities to take stricter action against companies violating waste disposal regulations, reported Channel 3 Plus News.
Royal Galaxy Cruise concluded its statement with a pledge to improve its operational standards and prevent similar incidents in the future.
“We apologise once again and would like to confirm that we will continue to improve to maintain the quality of our services and the sustainability of the environment. We will not let this kind of problem happen again.”
