British man dies on Bangkok footpath after rampage, altercation

A British man died on a footpath in Bangkok after going on a rampage and engaging in a physical altercation with two Thai karaoke bar workers on Sunday, March 23. Bar workers insisted on their innocence.
Officers from Bang Pho Police Station were called to investigate the death of the foreign man on a footpath near Soi Pracharat Sai 1, Section 7/1, in the Bang Sue district of Bangkok on Sunday night. The man was alone and had no personal documents with him.
ThaiRath reported that police later identified the foreigner as a 28 year old British man, but his name was not released to the public.
According to a report by Channel 8, the British man was found lying face-up with blood flowing from his nose. He was wearing black shorts and a yellow polo shirt.
Two karaoke workers, who had been involved in a physical altercation with the foreigner shortly before his death, insisted on their innocence. One of them explained that he and another bar worker noticed the British man running from Kiak Kai Intersection and attempting to enter their bar.
They prevented him from entering due to his suspicious behaviour. The foreign man then continued running so they followed him on a motorcycle, intending to help him. They parked the motorcycle at the incident scene and attempted to talk with the man but were unsuccessful.

They then handed the foreigner a mobile phone and urged him to use a translation application. Unexpectedly, the British man grabbed the phone and attempted to run away.
The workers managed to retrieve the phone but the foreigner would not stop and instead targeted the motorcycle.

The British man reportedly jumped onto the motorcycle and attempted to flee but the key was still in the workers’ possession. The bar workers said they rushed to pull the man off the motorcycle, leading to a physical altercation.
Unfortunately, the foreigner collapsed to the ground and suddenly died. The karaoke bar workers insisted that the altercation had not been violent enough to cause the man’s death.

Another karaoke bar worker and a local who witnessed the incident suspected the foreigner of having drugs in his system. They suspected drugs and exhaustion from running as the causes of the man’s death.
Officers from Bang Pho Police Station transferred the British man’s body to a hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The two karaoke bar workers remain in police custody for questioning but no charges have been issued against them pending the autopsy results.
