Thailand tempest: Heavy rain set to drench Bangkok
Low-pressure system and southwest monsoon set to disrupt travel and marine conditions

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather warning, predicting thunderstorms across 36 provinces, with Bangkok expected to be particularly affected, experiencing heavy rainfall in 60% of its area.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution due to potential hazards from these conditions.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that thunderstorms will be prevalent throughout Thailand, driven by a low-pressure system over northern Laos and Vietnam, as well as the southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Sea conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to have waves reaching up to 1 metre, increasing to over 2 metres in stormy areas. Mariners are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms.
The northern region will see thunderstorms in 40% of the area, mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Tak, and Nan, with temperatures ranging from lows of 23 to 25°C to highs of 33 to 36°C. Southwesterly winds will be at 10 to 20 km/h.
For the northeast, thunderstorms are expected in 30% of the area, particularly in Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani, with temperatures of 23 to 26°C at the lower end and highs of 33 to 36°C. Winds will blow from the southwest at 10 to 20 km/h.

In the central region, 40% of the area will experience thunderstorms, mainly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon, with temperatures ranging from lows of 23 to 26°C to highs of 35 to 36°C. Southwesterly winds will range between 10 and 20 km/h.
In the eastern region, 60% of the area will be hit by thunderstorms, especially in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, with temperatures from 25 to 27°C and highs of 33 to 37°C. Southwesterly winds will be between 15 and 30 km/h. Sea waves will reach around 1 metre, increasing to over 2 metres in stormy areas.
In the southern region (east coast), thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, with temperatures from lows of 24 to 26°C and highs of 33 to 36°C. Southwesterly winds will be 15 to 30 km/h, with sea waves around 1 metre, rising to over 2 metres in stormy areas.
Similarly, the west coast in the south will also experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, particularly in Krabi, Trang, and Satun, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 25°C, peaking at 32 to 35°C. Southwesterly winds will blow at 15 to 30 km/h, with sea waves approximately 1 metre high and reaching over 2 metres in stormy conditions, KhaoSod reports.
Bangkok and its vicinity can expect thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging from lows of 26 to 27°C to highs of 35 to 36°C. The southwest wind will range between 10 and 20 km/h.
