Storm warning: Thailand set for a wild wet and windy ride

The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) has warned about heavy rain in 20 provinces, including Bangkok, advising caution due to potential dangers. Upper Thailand is experiencing extreme heat, with preparations needed for the upcoming summer storm, including strong winds and hail expected today, March 26.
A 24-hour weather forecast indicates that upper Thailand remains generally hot, with some areas experiencing extreme heat and haze. Thunderstorms with strong winds are anticipated in certain areas due to low atmospheric pressure caused by heat and the presence of southwesterly and southeasterly winds.
Residents in upper Thailand should maintain health precautions due to the hot to extremely hot weather by avoiding prolonged outdoor activities. They should also be cautious of thunderstorms and strong winds. The TMD has forecasted accumulated rainfall for the next 15 days, urging preparedness for summer storms.
The easterly and southeasterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea are weak, resulting in reduced rainfall in the south. Waves in the Gulf and Andaman Sea are about 1 metre high, but are higher in thunderstorm areas. Mariners in these regions are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in stormy areas.
From March 29 to April 1, a weak high-pressure system or cold air mass from China will extend over northern Laos, northern Vietnam, and the South China Sea, bringing moisture to upper Thailand. This region, already experiencing hot to extremely hot conditions, is expected to face summer storms, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail, with potential lightning in some areas.
Residents should be vigilant against the dangers of summer storms, avoiding travel through storm-hit areas or staying in open spaces, under large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Farmers are advised to strengthen fruit trees and take preventive measures to protect crops and livestock from potential damage, while also taking care of their health amid changing weather conditions.
