Thailand braces for cold wave with thunderstorms in the south
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecasted a significant drop in temperature across northern and upper southern Thailand due to a cold air mass, with thunderstorms expected in several provinces in the south. Today’s weather forecast highlights that a moderate cold air mass is covering the upper part of Thailand and the upper southern regions, resulting in cold to chilly weather in the northeastern and northern areas.
In Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as in the central and eastern regions, residents can expect cool weather. On mountain tops, the temperature is expected to be very cold, even freezing in some areas.
The public is advised to take precautions against the cold weather and the risk of fire hazards due to dry conditions.
The northeast monsoon is currently affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea. Although it is weakening, the lower southern region will still experience isolated thunderstorms.
In the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to be around 2 metres high, with higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. In the upper Gulf, waves will reach 1 to 2 metres, while the Andaman Sea will have waves of about 1 metre, rising to 1 to 2 metres offshore.
Mariners are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Dust particles in the upper regions of Thailand remain at moderate levels due to stagnant air circulation.
