Thailand braces as heavy rain persists in several regions

Monsoon weakens, but danger lurks for northeastern provinces

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts a reduction in rainfall for today, although heavy rain is still expected in some regions.

Residents in the upper northeastern areas are advised to remain cautious due to potential heavy rainfall and accumulation. This weather pattern is influenced by a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam, coupled with a weakened southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The weather advisory highlights that 36 provinces are expected to experience rain, with particularly heavy showers in northern and northeastern Thailand. Meanwhile, maritime conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are reported to be mild, with waves reaching heights of 1 to 2 metres, and exceeding 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

For the northern region, thunderstorms are anticipated in 30% of the area, mainly affecting Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Tak provinces. The temperatures are forecasted to range from 23-26°C at the lowest and 32-35°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 10-20 km/h.

In the northeastern region, 30% of the area is expected to experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in Bung Kan, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom provinces. Temperatures will vary from 25-26°C at the lowest to 34-35°C at the highest. Winds in this area will also be southwesterly at 10-20 km/h.

The central region will experience thunderstorms in 30% of the area, particularly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi provinces. The forecasts indicate temperatures between 25-26°C at the lowest and 35-36°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at 10-20 km/h.
