Thai weather warning: 49 provinces to face severe storms

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued its fourth warning concerning severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and significant temperature drops of up to 8 degrees Celsius. Residents in 49 provinces, including Bangkok and its vicinity, are advised to exercise caution from March 16 to March 20.
From March 16 to March 17, upper Thailand will experience thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and possible lightning, followed by a temperature decrease.
In the northeast, temperatures are expected to drop by 5 to 8°C, while other regions may see a reduction of 2 to 4°C. The phenomenon is attributed to a high-pressure system from China moving over upper Thailand and the South China Sea amid hot weather in the country.
Residents are advised to avoid travelling through areas with thunderstorms or staying in open spaces, under large trees, or near unstable structures and billboards. Farmers should secure crops and livestock and take precautions against potential damage. Additionally, maintaining health during these weather changes is advised.
Today, March 16, affected provinces include Nan, Uttaradit, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun in the north; Loei, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani in the northeast.
In the central region include Nakhon Sawan, Chai Nat, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon, including Bangkok and its vicinity; and Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat in the east.
Weather forecast
Tomorrow, March 17, the north will include Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, and Tak; the central region will again see Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon, along with Bangkok and its vicinity; the east will continue with Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat; and in the south, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan will be affected.
From March 17 to March 20, easterly and southeasterly winds will intensify over the Gulf of Thailand, southern regions, and the Andaman Sea, resulting in increased rainfall and isolated heavy showers in the south.
The lower Gulf of Thailand will experience strong winds with waves reaching 2 to 3 metres and over 3 metres in stormy areas, while the upper Gulf and the Andaman Sea will have waves of 1 to 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorms.
Residents in the south should be cautious of heavy rain. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should avoid areas with thunderstorms, and small boats in the lower Gulf and off the Andaman coast should remain ashore during these dates, reported KhaoSod.
