Weather alert: April showers to batter Bangkok and beyond

Brace yourselves, Thailand, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has sounded the alarm for today, as severe weather is set to ravage 40 provinces across the nation, including the bustling capital of Bangkok. Expect intense thunderstorms, howling winds, and the shocking possibility of lightning strikes.

Southern Thailand is in the line of fire, with a whopping 70% of the region bracing for a heavy downpour.

Residents in the north, northeast, and central Thailand should be cautious of thunderstorms and gusty winds. People are advised to avoid open areas, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards.

Farmers are urged to protect their crops and livestock from damage and take care of their health during these weather changes. These conditions are attributed to a low-pressure heat system over Thailand, combined with southern and southwesterly winds affecting the region.

In southern Thailand, heavy rain is expected due to southeasterly winds over the region and the Gulf of Thailand. The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will experience waves about 1 metre high, increasing to over 2 metres during thunderstorms.

Residents in southern provinces should be cautious of potential flash floods, particularly in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying regions. Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to avoid sailing in stormy areas.

Dust and haze accumulation in the northeast is moderate to high, with poor ventilation contributing to increasing levels.
