David Byrne announces ‘Who Is the Sky?’ new album and world tour in Asia

Live Nation Tero has announced that American musician, writer, visual artist and filmmaker David Byrne will perform in Bangkok on August 10 at UOB LIVE, in support of his new album Who Is The Sky? that came out on September 5, 2025 via Remote Control/Matador.
The organiser said Byrne’s new live show will feature 13 musicians, singers and dancers, including members of the American Utopia band, with the performers remaining mobile throughout the set.
The Asia run follows a tour schedule that began in North America in September 2025, moved to Australia and New Zealand in January 2026, and continued with European and United Kingdom dates, with the Asia tour beginning in August.
Who Is The Sky? is Byrne’s first new album since 2018’s award-winning American Utopia. The album was produced by Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus), with its 12 songs arranged by the members of New York-based chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra.
The release includes appearances from St. Vincent, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, and American Utopia percussionist Mauro Refosco. The album is led by the single “Everybody Laughs”, with an official video directed by multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo.

Byrne said the song takes an observational approach to daily life, noting the repeated use of “everybody” as a way to frame shared experiences. Kid Harpoon said the track’s early versions reflected Byrne’s personal writing style and broader perspective on life, describing the listening experience as joyful and connecting.
The announcement also outlines Byrne’s writing process following the close of the American Utopia era, which expanded from an album and tour into a Broadway production and a Spike Lee-directed HBO film. Byrne began collecting musical ideas and lyric phrases during that period, later developing new material from those early sketches.
Byrne said he enlisted Ghost Train Orchestra after hearing the group’s 2023 tribute album to the New York composer and street poet Moondog, and later performing with them in Brooklyn. Ghost Train Orchestra leader Brian Carpenter described early sessions arranging Byrne’s demos for the ensemble and rehearsing songs including “My Apartment Is My Friend.”
The album was mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent and mastered by Emily Lazar. Byrne said the record explores themes of hiding and revealing, and described it as an opportunity to step into another reality and move beyond the constraints of the self. The album package was designed by Shira Inbar, with outfits by Belgian artist Tom Van Der Borght.
Tickets for the show are now officially on sale. Fans can purchase their tickets today via Thai Ticket Major.
