Heavy rain warning issued for Thailand with potential flash floods
Several provinces brace for flooding as storm systems gain strength

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across most of Thailand, cautioning against potential flash floods and forest runoffs, especially in foothill areas.
As of 5pm yesterday, May 3, the TMD forecast severe weather conditions over the next 24 hours, with southern regions experiencing significant rainfall. Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of the dangers posed by heavy and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to sudden flooding and runoffs, particularly in foothill regions near waterways and low-lying areas.
This weather pattern is influenced by the easterly wind wave moving across the Gulf of Thailand and the south, while the northwesterly winds cover the Andaman Sea. The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are expected to see waves reaching approximately 1 metre, with stormy areas experiencing waves over 2 metres. Mariners in these regions are advised to avoid navigating during storms.
In northern Thailand, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in some areas, accompanied by hot daytime temperatures. Residents should be aware of potential weather-related hazards, including thunderstorms and strong winds, and take care of their health amidst changing weather conditions.
The presence of southerly and southeasterly winds brings moisture to upper Thailand, contributing to hot weather, which in turn affects dust accumulation. Dust levels in upper Thailand are expected to range from low to moderate, as some rain is forecast in these areas.
For the northern region, hot weather will prevail with thunderstorms covering 30% of the area and strong winds expected, particularly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces. Temperatures will range from a minimum of 22 to 25 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 33 to 38°C, with southwesterly winds at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour.
