Heavy rain forecast for 47 Thai provinces, warns of flash floods
Flash flood fears rise as relentless downpours threaten low-lying areas

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast heavy rain across 47 provinces, affecting three regions and Bangkok, with the heaviest rainfall covering 70% of the area. Residents are advised to prepare for potential flash floods and landslides on May 30.
The TMD predicts that northern and northeastern Thailand will experience particularly severe weather, urging locals in these regions to stay vigilant against the risks posed by heavy and accumulated rainfall. This weather could lead to sudden flooding, forest run-off, and landslides, especially in hilly terrains and low-lying areas near water channels.
Farmers are encouraged to improve drainage systems in their fields to mitigate the impact on crops and livestock. A monsoon trough is moving across upper northern Thailand and Laos, reaching a low-pressure area near northern Vietnam’s coast.
Meanwhile, a moderate southwesterly monsoon is affecting the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The upper Andaman Sea will see moderate sea conditions with waves around 2 metres high, while the lower part will have waves between 1 and 2 metres, rising above 2 metres during thunderstorms.
Mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to exercise caution and avoid stormy areas; small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore.
In northern Thailand, thunderstorms are forecast in 70% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun.
