PPRP offers upskilling for welfare card holders to tackle poverty
The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has proposed new initiatives for the holders of its Pracharath welfare cards aimed at empowering them to break free from the poverty trap. Charnkrit Detwithak, a spokesperson for the party’s election strategy committee, stated that the party leader and prime ministerial candidate, General Prawit Wongsuwon, is focused on core issues and the need to boost the economy.
The PPRP’s economic team has developed campaign policies centred on providing assistance to low-income earners. In addition to the welfare cardholders receiving a monthly 700 baht, they will also be issued life insurance worth 200,000 baht at no cost, according to Detwithak.
The cardholders can also access occupational training. Upon completing the training, they will be eligible for a grant of 30,000 baht per person to start their own businesses.
Detwithak highlighted that the cardholders will gain work skills that assure job security and improve their living standards. Equipped with these skills, they can earn more money to keep up with rising costs of living and ultimately escape the poverty trap.
“The party has created opportunities for those in the low-income bracket to acquire the tools and knowledge to secure stable employment,” Detwithak said.
He also noted that the party plans to invest effectively to address poverty in a sustainable manner.
As the general election approaches, the Pheu Thai Party is adjusting its campaign to engage more with voters. According to Phuangphet Chunla-iad, chairwoman of the party’s political coordination panel for Bangkok, the party is targeting undecided voters by directly communicating campaign messages to them.
For example, the party’s MP candidates will speak at intersections where motorists can listen to the party’s policies while waiting for the red light. This campaign strategy is being implemented in multiple districts, including Nong Khaem, Bang Bon, Chom Thong, Don Muang, Phra Khanong, Bang Kholaem, and Yannawa.
The Pheu Thai Party is also increasing its door-to-door efforts, as recent opinion polls found that many voters in homes and condominiums were undecided on their votes for May 14.
The United Thai Nation (UTN) Party is concentrating on the South in the lead-up to the election, as this region exhibits high popularity for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, chief strategist for the UTN’s southern constituencies, said the party plans to launch a significant public relations campaign in the week preceding the election. Wangboonkongchana added that General Prayut has high approval ratings after leading campaign rallies in those provinces.
Even candidates who have left the Democrat Party, traditionally dominant in the South, claim that the UTN’s popularity in the area has surpassed expectations, according to Wangboonkongchana.
