Police set up centre for victims of 7 million baht iCon Group scam

Police in Suphan Buri has established a complaint centre to assist victims of The iCon Group investment scam, which has led to 30 complaints and a total financial loss exceeding 7 million baht. Police are now expediting the investigation by gathering documents and evidence to submit to the Consumer Protection Police Division.

Suphan Buri Provincial Police, under the direction of Police Major General Watcharin Prasopdee, convened a meeting with the heads of all 10 police stations in the province to discuss the progress of the investigation. The national police chief has instructed local police across the country to accept complaints from individuals affected by The iCon Group.

The Suphan Buri Provincial Police have set up a dedicated centre to receive complaints related to The iCon Group at the Mueang Suphan Buri Police Station and 16 other local stations. Victims can file complaints at any nearby police station, which will then forward the cases to the designated centre for further investigation.

Watcharin shared that so far, 30 victims have reported losses amounting to 7,116,625 baht (US$210,815). Investigators are currently taking statements and compiling evidence, including financial records, as mandated by the Central Investigation Bureau. Once the investigation is complete, all findings will be forwarded to the Consumer Protection Police Division for further action.

Among the cases in Suphan Buri, the highest reported loss is around 600,000 baht (US$17,770), with others ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 baht (US$2,960 to 5,925) and the smallest being slightly over 10,000 baht (US$300), reported KhaoSod.

“We encourage victims to report their cases at their nearest police station,” said Watcharin. “These stations will then transfer the complaints to the Suphan Buri centre to ensure a thorough investigation according to the guidelines set by the Central Investigation Bureau.”

In related news, 71 people in Phuket have fallen victim to the iCon fraud scam, with losses amounting to 19.5 million baht (US$580,530), confirmed Phuket Provincial Police Commander Sinlert Sukhum.
