Fruit vendor arrested for distributing child pornography in Thailand
The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) in Nonthaburi yesterday held a press conference announcing the arrest of a fruit seller who was also distributing child pornography for financial gain.
Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiwphan, along with other senior officers, detailed the investigation that led to the capture of 32 year old Thammasorn, a fruit vendor from Chon Buri, who was allegedly operating secret groups on social media platforms for the distribution of illicit content.
The police investigation, led by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (TICAC), uncovered advertisements enticing people to join secret groups on the X application, formerly known as Twitter. Under the account names Nong Khaimuk (Secret Group) and Kai Whan (Secret Group), posts promoted access to adult content with a 50% discount offer.
Thammasorn, who managed these groups, was reportedly arrested in January for similar offences related to child pornography distribution.
Following the gathering of evidence, police obtained a warrant from the Chon Buri Provincial Court on April 25 to search Thammasorn’s residence in Baan Bueng district. Police seized mobile phones and bank account records.
The investigation team said that Thammasorn had created several secret groups on the Line application, charging membership fees ranging from 100 to 300 baht (US$3 to 9) for access to different types of pornographic content. These groups included themes like family, amateur, and voyeuristic content, among others.
Lieutenant General Trirong stated that Thammasorn admitted to resuming these activities two months ago, earning approximately 10,000 baht (US$300) monthly. He confessed to using this income to pay legal fees following his previous arrest, reported KhaoSod.
Thammasorn now faces charges related to importing pornographic materials into computer systems, possessing child pornography for sexual exploitation, and promoting the distribution of such content. He has been handed over to Ban Bueng Police Station for legal proceedings.
