A 25 year old father was reported to have assaulted his seven year old son at their home in Sri Bunrueng district, Nong Bua Lamphu province, after consuming drugs. The attack, yesterday, February 9, involved a wooden pestle, leaving the child with serious injuries, including bleeding from the ears.
Rescue team leader Doctor Napasdon Saengklang detailed the incident, explaining that emergency services arrived at the scene around 7pm. There, they found the young boy, known only as A, in distress, bleeding from his head.
The father, Panudet, was restrained by relatives and neighbours before being taken to Sri Bunrueng Hospital for treatment of his head injuries.
Upon examination, hospital doctors found that the child’s condition was severe, with internal bleeding in the brain. Consequently, he was transferred to Nong Bua Lamphu Hospital for further care.
Meanwhile, Panudet, who suffered minor head injuries, was treated and is under police custody for further legal actions.
Police inquiries revealed that Panudet admitted to consuming two pills before the assault. His father, Narin, disclosed that Panudet has a history of drug addiction and had been previously imprisoned for assaulting him.
Despite efforts to distance Panudet from negative influences, he continued to associate with friends involved in drug use.
Earlier that day, Panudet had asked his mother for money. After receiving 250 baht (US$7), he left and later returned to request an additional 40 baht (US$1.2).
When refused, he expressed anger, claiming A was not his son, despite the child being his biological offspring. This led to the violent outburst.
Narin recounted the response to the attack, describing how he intervened to protect A from further harm and how neighbours assisted in subduing Panudet. The child was safely transported to the hospital for medical attention.
Narin mentioned that since taking custody of A three years ago, there had been no prior incidents of violence towards the child. However, Panudet had previously displayed aggression towards him, resulting in a one-year prison sentence, reported KhaoSod.
The child remained under medical observation, with doctors monitoring his condition and planning further assessments.
