Bank robber arrested after CCTV captures him counting money metres from the scene

A man accused of robbing a branch of the Thai Military Bank in Bangkok has been arrested after CCTV showed him counting the money just 300 metres from the scene of the crime. The Pattaya News reports that 35 year old Kanchanok Srisawat is accused of robbing 416,000 baht from the bank in the Vacharaphon area of the capital on Thursday afternoon.

CCTV footage shows the man entering the bank wearing black trousers, a camouflage short, a black hat and a face mask. He then produced a gun and forced an employee to fill a bag with the cash. After fleeing the scene, he was again captured on CCTV as he counted the money by Siripong Thamanimit temple, metres from the bank. Police tracked him down 6 hours later to a rental property at Thanom Mitr Park, where he was arrested and taken into custody.

It’s understood the suspect has admitted to the robbery, telling officers that he was sacked from his job 3 months ago and has accumulated a lot of debt due to a gambling addiction. At the time of his arrest, it’s understood he had already gambled away 16,000 baht of the money stolen from the bank.
