A 46 year old man from Ayutthaya province confessed to shooting his former parents-in-law, resulting in their deaths, and injuring his wife and her four year old child.

The incident occurred in the early hours within a village in Uthai subdistrict, Uthai district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. Following the crime, Songpon fled the scene in a car before switching to a six-wheel truck from his workplace, heading towards north Thailand. He informed the police that he intended to deliver the goods before turning himself in.

At 12pm yesterday, March 11, police apprehended Songpon on the Asian Highway near the Chai Nat interchange. Investigations were conducted by Police Colonel Manas Addoddorn from Uthai Police Station.

Songpon explained that he and his wife had been in a relationship, acknowledged by her mother and stepfather. He admitted to having another family, which his wife was aware of, but tensions arose over the past two months due to jealousy. This led to interference from his mother-in-law and his wife’s stepfather, preventing their meetings.

His wife had moved in with relatives, yet Songpon continued to financially support her. On the night of the incident, learning she was back home, he attempted to reconcile by calling and then entering the house after finding the back door unlocked.

While they were resolving issues, his mother-in-law and stepfather entered, resulting in a heated argument. Songpon, suspecting the stepfather of being overly close to his wife, fired one shot each at the stepfather, mother-in-law, and wife. He denied intentionally shooting the child, attributing the injury to a stray bullet.

Songpon then drove to his workplace and switched to a company truck to make deliveries, planning to surrender after completing his tasks but police caught him beforehand. He admitted to the shootings, acknowledging there was no way to undo his actions. The firearm used was his, with the bullets purchased for personal protection, reported KhaoSod.

Police charged Songpon with premeditated murder and illegal firearm possession. CCTV footage showed him entering the village, parking near the house, and using his phone before scaling the fence. After some time, he was seen fleeing in his car, with his injured wife and her child seeking help from neighbours. Another CCTV captured the sounds of gunfire, followed by Songpon’s escape in his vehicle.
