What to do in Bangkok this weekend (February 20 to 22)

Concerts, art openings, vintage markets and oyster feasts: Bangkok’s best things to do this weekend

There’s no such thing as a quiet weekend in Bangkok. One minute you are planning something small and sensible, the next you are standing in an arena screaming lyrics you somehow still remember from 2013. This stretch of days moves fast but in a good way. You can drift between music, art, food and a little chaos, collecting moments that feel oddly cinematic for something that started as “no real plans”.

Here’s our curated list of the best things to do in Bangkok this weekend.

If oysters are your thing, this ten day feast keeps you busy. Weekdays bring eight varieties, while weekends stretch to fourteen, with names like La Fine de Cadoret, known for its salty, delicate bite, and La Perle Noire, prized for a nutty, slightly crunchy finish. La Belon also makes an appearance, carrying that sweet, rich character Brittany is known for.

Beyond the raw bar, there are cheesy baked oysters with spinach, spicy Thai herb oyster salad, and crispy fried oysters with tamarind sauce. The weekend adds French style specials such as grilled oysters with mornay and crab soufflé, alongside seafood on ice, sushi, scallops and more. Come hungry.

Date & Time: Sunday, February 22, 4pm (opening day)

Location: Joyman Gallery

Price: Free entry

Narong Charungthammachoti steps out of the newspaper frame and into the gallery with Designed to Lose: An Unfair Game. Known for his sharp political cartoons, he now scales up his critique in bold paintings filled with pigs, ducks and hazard stripes that speak plainly about power and inequality. The tone is witty but the message cuts deep.

Opening day comes with a small bonus. The first 20 who purchase merchandise can receive an original drawing straight from the artist’s hand. You can also meet him, chat, and see how those clean, colourful lines carry more weight than they first suggest.

Bangkok has a way of filling a few days with more than you expected, even when you did not plan much at all. Step out for one thing and you often find another. That sense of discovery is reason enough to leave the house.
