Phuket Food Festival coming up next week
Foodies will rejoice to know that the Phuket Food Festival is coming up next week. This will be the 25th time the festival has been held.
The Phuket City Delicious Food Festival 2023 will be held at the Saphan Hin Center Stage area from March 28 to April 3. The festival will be open to visitors from 4pm to 11pm every day.
The president of the Phuket City Municipality Food Traders Club, Panachai Wasanarungruangsuk, confirmed that over 100 club members will participate.
Panachai said there will be a variety of dishes at the festival including sweet and savoury dishes, as well as seafood.
Photos by Phuket’s public relations Facebook page display some of the colourful, tasty dishes that will be sold at the festival.
Panachai added…
“The highlight of this year’s event is that restaurants joining in the event will be serving new creative dishes that are unique to Phuket in order to strengthen Phuket’s reputation as a City of Gastronomy.”
Panchai said that vendors at the festival will use environmentally friendly containers to serve food. Plastic and styrofoam boxes will be banned, he said.
Like many festivals in Thailand, the Phuket Food Festival is held every year to boost Phuket’s tourism and bring income to local businesses.
Last year, the festival was held for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out. Dishes included Pad Thai, papaya salad, and Chinese gyoza dumplings.
Another popular food festival in Phuket last year was the ‘Tastival.’ Tastival features several stalls with fresh seafood sold by the kilogram, as well as live music and cultural entertainment. There is traditional Thai food, as well as Japanese Yakisoba. The festival, held in Roi Rim Lay, was called “Phuket Tastival Seafood and Gastronomy: Roi-Yok-Lo.” Officials hoped that the festival would help Phuket’s economy after it was battered by Covid.
