The 5th annual Samui Open Beach Volleyball Tournament is set to take place on the island of Koh Samui between March 10 and March 12. The event will be held at the Royal Muang Samui Villas on Choeng Mon Beach in the northeast corner of the island.
The tournament was created in 2016 to cater to the increasing global interest in beach volleyball, according to organiser Biggs Island Productions. It is part of an often overlooked but long-flourishing sports tourism segment in Thailand
The tournament is now fully registered and boasts 120 athletes, 80 teams, and 28 countries represented, with 80% of the athletes coming from overseas and 20% being Thai and foreign nationals.

This year’s event is the biggest of its kind yet for the Samui Open. It is being supported by the Tourism Association of Koh Samui (TAKS) and Koh Samui Municipality (Tessaban).
On the beach, 80 teams will compete in four divisions: Men’s 2×2, Women’s 2×2, Mix 2×2, and Quads 4×4. The gameplay will last for three days, leading up to the winners being awarded a title and prizes. Players are coming to Samui from over 28 countries across Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and Asia.
This year, the Samui Open prize money will total 80,000 baht for the winners. They will also receive trophies, medals, sponsor vouchers, volleyball gear, and apparel.
Spectators are invited to come to watch the tournament play. Admission is free for all three days of the tournament. Aside from the volleyball play, Samui Open spectators can enjoy live DJs, concession stands, and volleyball merchandise.
